Last night at VW Home

Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to be invited to a panel discussion at Vicente Wolf's showroom in New York City.

The founder of 1stdibs, Michael Bruno, bridal designer Amsale, event designer Preston Bailey and New York Spaces' Editor-in-Chief Jason Kontos discussed in a lively and humorous manner the various ways of how they achieved their success, background stories and lots of advise how to proceed in our times and what it takes to get you where you want to be in business.
There was talk about the blogosphaere, the changing ways of connecting and how websites, blogs and the internet at large have changed the business for the better.
I was extremly glad to hear Jason Kontos' assurance that great magazines will be around, regardless! As much as I like to work may way through sites online, nothing beats the pleasures of holding a magazine and knowing how many creative people have worked on it, searched and found beautiful things and sights to share.

Ok, I have to admit it, I would have loved to open this post with a pretty picture of Vicente Wolf having his arm around me and me beeming in the camera, signed book in hand:
Unfortunately our host Vicente Wolf was not able to be there, he is ill and currently in the hospital. Here are my best wishes for his speedy recovery!

It is always fascinating to see the well known people of my industry sitting together and sharing their experiences. Hard work, a serious sense of fun, good luck and circumstances, being at the right time in the right place, connecting with people and being able to see a chance and to hold on to it, all this made it happen for these four charming personalities and I had a great time taking mental notes.

Earlier on the lovely ladies working the magic behind VW Home had set up a delightful cocktail hour and the guests mingled and talked and took in the splendid surroundings. Trudy, (Showroom manager), Susan (PR Director), Samantha (one of the interns) - it was so nice talking to you - all was so lovely set up by you.

Vicente Wolf's showroom attests to his travels, his unfailing sense of style and it seems to outgrow the space...
I took many pictures and without further ado I will share them with you. There was so much to see and he displays his goods in such a beautiful way, I run around and tried to capture all the little vignettes, the riches of the world's cultures and without missing a beat, talking to fellow designers and working my way through the cocktails....
By the way, you can see the podcast and video at Vicente Wolf's blog soon.

Last words: While I was sitting, sipping my wine and chatting with designer Mary Ann Walsh of Mary Ann Walsh Interiors, back home my husband had taken over the steering of the family ship, running from dentist with the kids to games and training, making dinner and being cheerful al the while...You made it all happen for me, who can run loose at 4PM at a weekday I am asking??? Thank you, darling!

  2. Victoria - thanks for posting these pics and giving us the inside scoop on VW Home. And that VW is in the hospital! Hopefully the fact that they went on with the panel discussion means he's ok.

  6. Hi Victoria:

It certainly was a pleasure meeting you. You are delightful wish we could have spent more time, but I had to get around to all our guests. Thank you so much for the mention on your blog. We will be doing this again and hope you can make it. When husbands take over steering the ship at home for us they have a new found respect for us. My very best, Trudi

  9. Victoria,

Thank you for posting the photos of Vicente's showroom. I stopped in there last November when I was in NYC visiting my daughter who is a student at the New School/Parsons. I spent considerable time sitting on the sofas and chairs, examining the chests, tables, decorative objects and fabrics, and plying Trudi with questions. I had a marvelous time. It was a 'kid in a candy store' experience for me and I wished I had a camera to record it all. So now I have your images to reinforce my memory.

Vicente arrived and stopped to chat with me for a while. It is nice to rub elbows with a genius. I hope some of it rubbed off on me.

    Vielen Dank,

    Gary
