Magic carpet

A few weeks ago I looked through eBay, a hobby of sorts, to find treasures to blog about or to find things I happen to look around for our own needs. One of those needs has been a carpet for our living room. A carpet has not been on our have -to -have -list, for the obvious reasons: Always something else more needed!
But then I hit the jackpot finding a beauty...
The PB navy wool chain link carpet. The price was more then right (A $ 299 bargain), 100 % wool, the colors and pattern absolute perfect and all I needed to do was convincing my better half that now was the right time.
I succeeded!

And here comes the magic: Since the carpet arrived, a day before Thanksgiving (A magic in itself, it was not expected until Dec.1) everybody is drawn to it's cheerful pattern, it's warmth and the room now feels completed and chic!

We love this carpet!

Recent acquisitions

A small vintage purse from South of France via Etsy shop bOmode, just love it.

A lovely silver plated chafing dish, for small things....chocolates or other sweets? Found at Etsy shop vintagedazzle!

Two gorgeous turquoise glass vases, which I use as candle holders or to force hyacinth bulbs in the depth of winter! Look for more at magiebelle.

And below from Ebay: My little Bjorn Wiinblad indulgence. All three together for under $60.00!
Apart from the great deal I am so happy, because I adore his fine paint work and colors. The white gold china is especially lovely.
And all has arrived, safe and sound!

And this one is on it's way....

Do you go on Ebay? Or Etsy? It's such fun and a little thrill...

Treasured weekend

Welcome to the cooler season! I love the glow of candles, an open book by the fire and all the things I love to live with in my house...

This weekend will give me time to work on some house projects. First to give my kitchen a tiny face lift. (Which I started already a week ago and now it's to the finish line. I will post....And then to re-upholster our dining chairs and a bench. Have staple gun, will use it!

Wishing you all a treasured weekend! And the time to do those things in the pipeline.....

Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn

Here come a little more then a few snap shots from our delightful visit to Bedford Ave, in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.
We started out late morning on Sunday and after about 40 minutes driving arrived at our destination. The sun was out, a little cool, but lovely walking weather. Bedford Avenue between Grand Street and 9. Street is a hip heaven for everyone looking for fashion and music, small shops with everything from soap to sausages and many nice places to eat, drink and be merry...

For the more design oriented among us there is from junk shops to thrift stores and places of unusual modern to mid century high end design all to be found what one could wish for in this rather small area.
I spend an hour browsing through the shelves of one of the larger thrift stores located on Dribbs Avenue and 9St Street.
Old wonderful editions of Dickens and Thomas Hardy, L.M. Alcott and Walter Scott caught my eye. I have always been drawn to old books and the only reason not to bring many of them home is the limited space in our already packed library. I know, it's a lame excuse for the true collector, but thinking that all these stories line my shelves, I hesitated...

I saw an old doll house and chandeliers, a comfortable wing back chair, although old covered with a rather wonderfully current pattern of shredded upholstery.

After this we walked back towards Bedford Ave and then along smaller side streets to a pretty place with the fitting name
'The Future Perfect'.
A little treasure box of modern design and decorative objects.

The chandelier is such fun, I would have loved to bring it home...

We had such a fun afternoon and we will return soon! There is so much more to be explored, discovered and visited!

First fall decorations

This time of year lends itself so much for decorating and I always like to do it with something harvested, flowers from my garden, fruits and vegetables from the farm stand.

Candles make it warm and inviting, to sit and share a cup of tea!

As you can see I have been playing with my photo program on my new Mac! It's much fun!
Also today I found some great new books, fitting to my design philosophy to use things at hand, working with objects found in nature, the garden or around the house.
I will introduce them in the next few days on the Interior Design blog... I'll keep you posted!

Also as a little reminder, if you want separate updates from the design blog, please became a separate follower!

And just speaking of garden, look at this sweet visitor, even in the rain she came and ruffled her feathers, looking for last nectar! Perhaps click on the pictures so you can actually see the small hummingbird!

Much love to you all!

Mini makeovers

I love a quick pick me up make over which takes not too long, but has a nice impact, leaving you feeling accomplished and ready for more...
I had for a while contemplated to paint these small rattan tables white and now it finally happened.

In our family room before...

They are useful in our family room, holding a tray with our fish and a small loud speaker. Doesn't it look so much better?

And a mini re-do in our basement, a major hangout for the teens and occasional sleepover spot for friends and family...
Before a big mess...

And now...ready for the arrival of my oldest and his girl!

Cost for both: two spray cans, elbow grease and the new sofa ($399), two tables ($14)and carpets ($80)from IKEA. It has now a capacity to sleep 4 easily and six with an additional air mattress...

My next project is already waiting for me!
