A raw Saturday breakfast
This morning rose not too hot, just right, to enjoy breakfast on our deck. The WSJ and the New York Times enhanced our breakfast at the table. We freshly squeezed oranges, papaya and frozen bananas for a refreshing fruit drink, had a delicious raw cereal with hemp, flax, chia seeds, some goji berries, walnuts and pecans and cacao mixed with cold almond milk.
A few fresh dates rounded up a healthy start of the day.

Lace and Fringes
Nature forms the most enticing patterns. Last night's ice storm, hitting the East Coast with a vengeance, left trees covered in sheets of ice, everything frozen in place and it looks magical and a little eerie at the same time.

I hope you are all cozy! And drive carefully!

* Winter * wonder * land
Places I often visit in my mind, 'my son's city' Berlin and Munich in subzero temperatures and a thick blanket of snow!

I am thinking of you all, my loves! My boys, parents, siblings, friends...far away in wintery Germany! I miss you all!

Weekends roll around...
Weekends roll around and it's almost Thanksgiving. I am a little scared as how fast the time passes by, I am still feeling the afterglow of this summer. This makes me sometimes melancholic and as I sit near the fireplace, crackling with a fire to warm the house I reflect on my life. The old feeling of an endless amounts of time ahead of me gives way more often to the awareness of it's passing. My own time span is thankfully unknown to me, but I think about what I have done with my life until now and how often I feel the need to do more. To be more creative, more active, more caring, more loving. Less selfish - more selfish?
There is this voice pushing me onward to new goals, yet they are still hidden. Sitting here I try to listen.
How often do you have the time to concentrate on the inner dialog? There are so many distractions...
The time is always now and I am fully aware of this. To embrace this very moment, to live in the presence, to look at this fire, which will burn down in a while and to enjoy the dancing flames.
To embrace the family, to spend the extra time with parents, who are getting older and with friends. Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday to reflect upon life, the intensity of every moment and the importance of being together - now!
There are people without contacts, lonely, often quietly so. Neighbors without family, the odd fellow. Perhaps we can embrace them too, pack an extra meal, or a small gift. Time is a wonderful present. Many people are just grateful to talk.

I will keep this in mind as the holiday season rolls around and we get caught up in all the festive preparations...
Wishing you a great week!

What I am reading now

On my bedside sits always a collection of books, patiently waiting for me. The stack never gets any shorter, since I add to it...oh for the love of reading! Occasionally I straighten them out and some of the ones on the bottom get reshuffled to the top... for fairness!
But a few days ago Justine Picardie's Coco Chanel biography was displayed at my local bookstore and I simply couldn't resist.
It got plonked right on top of it all!
I love her story, her couture, her style, the movies about her and now I get a chance to read all nicely assembled by
Justine Picardie. (She also has a wonderful blog, just follow the link on her name above)

And have you read 'Daphne' by the same authoress?

But this will have to wait a little longer, now it's Coco all the way!
It started as good as I was hoping it would...

Fancy
Last Sunday my youngest and I hit the road to spend some time together. We planned on visiting one of the neighboring towns and on our way we crossed Tappan Zee Bridge, one of the old landmarks spanning the Hudson from Tarrytown to Nyack. Just as we were about to exit we we were passed by one of those lovely fancy vintage cars, white, ready to carry a bride and groom into their honeymoon...
(Proof that I had my hands on the wheel....my co-pilot took the pictures!)
This one I found at the parking lot at Wave Hill...

And I spotted this old VW Beetle model during our summer vacation in Volkach am Main.
This Chevrolet pickup drives around our neighborhood a lot...
Isn't this so cute?
I love an old convertible. Just classy!
I adore old cars. If I could have it my way - and a budget to splurge - I perhaps would drive one of those around town. When ever I happen to see one of those beauties, I take pictures, discreet or not, I have an absolute weakness.
Thank goodness I am not alone with my passion and as we arrived there was a beautiful Fire Engine, just waiting for the boy and his mom to be admired and explored. How good is that?

It was the perfect Sunday afternoon!

Friday post

The last days have brought rain and more rain, which in turn gave me inspirations to feather our nest.
We cleaned the cobwebs - yes the do exist in my house - from behind the sofa in our 'winter room'. We have started to move piles of fire wood from the outside in. We love to gather around the fire place, listening to music or read.
I have stocked up on books:

I washed wool blankets and changed pillows to accommodate cooler nights.

Apples are sitting in a large green bowl, ready to eat!
The kettle sings in the kitchen for a soothing cup of tea and we are looking forward to a peaceful and hopefully sunny and dry first October weekend!
