Afternoon in the city

Yesterday I spend a couple of hours in New York City. I had dropped my daughter off at a party and could not bring myself to simply return. So I walked two delicious hours at the Upper West Side, had coffee and an darling Italian donut from a tiny place called BOMBOLONI...
After being nourished I headed for the streets...

Found lovely French crockery....

Saw gorgeous dresses at various stores along the little stretch between 70th to 74th Street on Columbus Ave...

And then I hit the jackpot: The uptown JONATHAN ADLER store....

The store is not large but is packed with style, personality and wits...I could have moved right in!
The colors, the shapes, the pottery...

From his carpets and needlepoint pillows to the new plates, I adore his design aesthetics!
Check out some of his wall paper design:

15 years ago , when I did not know him at all and he had opened his first store in Soho, I had bought a lovely salad bowl, tea pot which are still in great shape and use. I have been following his enormous career ever since. He did so amazingly well for himself!
After this I felt my afternoon was complete and something else I found I will show you tomorrow. Enough for today! :)

Have a great day, you all!

Leitmotif

Looking through my files of wall paper inspirations I found a lot I tend to gravitate to: Blue/green/gray with white/gold or silver. These gorgeous baroque inspired damask papers with grand patterns, which in turn become the almost neutral background for a variety of different styles. Going modern or traditional a strong patterned paper will always pull a room out of the ordinary towards a statement!
It's a wonderful way to accent one wall (A great way of adding instant glamour if you are on a budget) and yet the result is going to be VA-VA-VROOM! Or wrap yourself in a whole room filled with amazement...

Time and again

I have been rummaging through my files , looking for inspiration for my upcoming renovations in my own house, master bedroom and living room and wall paper has been on my mind.

We had begun to use wallpaper, when we moved in to our house about ten years ago.
I had used Designers Guild paper in lime green at the time and apart from little hands patting in chair rail height a layer of fatty little prints it's in pretty good shape...
In other words the expense of the paper has been well worth it.

For my bedroom I found a lovely paper and will give you a little preview:

I found it here.

A few day ago I came across these pictures and was in such awe:

This last image via House of Turquoise, features a similar patterned wallpaper in beige, but alone the combination with those gorgeous lamps makes my heart skip a beat!!!

Wallpaper has been around for so long and it's wonderful that it has become so popular again. It simply is such a fabulous design element. I love how it is used on the screen in the painting above , surely in those days it was very expensive and to introduce such a pattern on a screen was economic and effective at the same time. And check out the hide the young lady is having underfoot...it all comes 'round again!

The wallpaper has given me the starting point and now it's off to the details around it...
