Hang in there, baby

Sometimes I wish I still had a little one to swing in something like that! How soothing this must be? But I found something for grown ups too!
The Leander Hanging Cradle...

And this lovely wicker model seen here! What a sweet little baby nest!
Sheepskin and a wooden rattle can not be far...

And once you have outgrown this phase you can move into this one...

Some things just never go out of style, and the classic modern creations by one of the pioneers of the modern furniture movement are as sought after today as they were forty years ago. In 1968 Eero Aarnio designed the famous Hanging Bubble Chair a follow up piece to the Ball Chair which in contrast is transparent so light can come in from all directions. This modern hanging acrylic sphere features removable cushions and hangs from the ceiling at almost any height.

Some like it hot...from here...

Of course this fab seat comes from one of my favorite stores...any wild guess?

I love hanging chairs, such fun!

Finds

I love browsing websites to find new and exciting dispatches from the design world.
Some become classics, some move slowly into every day life, some are affordable, most need a lot of saving...
And a few end up at the museum!

Today I visited unicahome.com and found so many desirable pieces, I had a hard time to contain my enthusiasm and make a selection fit for one post!
But I tried and without further talk here is my list:

I love Fornasetti, one of the big classic design firms, always cutting edge and modern! Apart from the famous plates they create chairs, screens, cabinets and much more.

Check those chairs...

I would love to find a space to fit in one of their fantastic screens. Not only they creates instant glamour, they also hide a multitude of sins, beginning with architectural boredom...
And maybe a mysterious place to change in a bedroom? Don't we all recall those movie scenes, where the heroine is helped by her maid into or out of her petticoats and pieces of clothing come flying over the screen?

For a more traditional look how about these?

And this cabinet surely steals the show anywhere...

Another of my favorites is Philippe Starck. I adore his genius. Any household item becomes a piece of art under his hands.

And those clear eyed visions above bring me straight to Karim Rashid's magazine racks/stools/tables:

And those carpets make me smile...

Missoni...

and by Karim Rashid.

And a couple of month ago I saw these innovative planters by Patrick Morris on their UK website, but now they are available here as well:

And last but not least something else for the little ones by the German design team Wolfgang Sirch/Christoph Bitzer:

Since this German designer is not so known in the United States I quote from the Unicahome website:

"...with its minimalist construction, the flix push car by wolfgang sirch combines the timeless appearance of classic wooden construction and modern design. quiet wheels that can be used both indoors and outdoors add to the versatility of this warm, welcoming toy.
dimensions: 17" x 13" x 13" in

about wolfgang sirch:

the sirch family has been producing products in wood for over 300 years in Germany. during the last part of the 20th century, the sirch company specialized in industrial shipping pallets, which they continue to manufacture today. after the death of his father isidor sirch, wolfgang sirch, an interior architect, became president. for a new synergy, he brought christoph bitzer, a sculptor, into the company.

the sirch-bitzer team began designing and producing very special items for children under the brand name sibi. all sibi products are handmade in the sirch factory in bavaria, primarily in wood. ..."
Some other of their designed pieces:

Don't you wish you could be little for a while or at least bestow such pretty and beautiful toys to some lucky toddler?

Trust me, there was so much more I would have liked to show you, but I guess you will need time to browse all those other lovely blogs on your list, right???

I know, me too!

Kidding around

Great design for children is not hard to come by these days. I have been looking around a bit. Maybe because my own children have doubtlessly outgrown the small furniture phase and I look with sentimental eyes at all those pint size designed chairs, tables and lovely accessories for the wee ones...

Over the last years has been a movement to recapture the midcentury design spirit and many famous chairs in particular have been redone in kid friendly sizes.
Modern parents look for modern design in the nursery, playrooms and childrens bedrooms.
I found pretty things.

DesignPublic has a great selection from baby through teens:

Mohair Teddy by Steiff - timeless!

Online Etsy seller 'decoylab' has these timely things, which fit right in with the midcentury theme:

And this seller 'petitcollage' makes very similar designed items. I am wondering if they know each other....

I adore those mobiles!

Knoll has come out with a whole series of great design classics for children, I show you only a few of their extensive selection.
Noguchi's Cyclone table and Bertoia's Diamond chair

as well as Saarinen's Womb chair:

There is so much more out there, Land of Nod, PB teens, Crate and Barrel, Ikea, The Conran Shop, NYC's Moma design store, Stokke, countless web sites and many more places cater to design concious parents and modern children alike.
