Welcome

Can you still imagine the feeling of being 15 and flying for the first time alone to America?

My niece (l) with two of my own...

Or Europe? Or any other far away place, filled with all the possibilities of adventure, a small piece of fear of the unknown tucked away in the heart and the curiosity of youth, taking it all in full of enthusiasm? WELCOME! WILLKOMMEN!
The wonderful thing is, that I for myself never lost this feeling and having been to Europe just a few weeks ago still let me taste this again and again. (The fears change a bit, the rest stays the same...)
But this time my niece, youngest daughter of my next younger sister comes over and we are so happy to receive her!
Welcome to America, welcome to us and  may this journey be the begin of a fabulous time, experience and getting to know each other better!

I found this book and perhaps this could be of help for her and other girl travelers. And she can practice her English too! But of course she has us to be her guides, we can't wait to show her our world!

So, Mama and Papa, do not worry, she will be safe and sound with us!

Tea time and more

I love a good cup of tea. Black or green, white or herb based. After having dealt with all kind of digestive related problems - for once I found out to be lactose intolerant - I have been looking for teas beneficial for all kind of ailments.
I found wonderful sources on Etsy and I absolutely love these teas.

During my research looking for organic herbal concotions I came across quite a few sites.
The one I found most informative and convincing I choose to order from. The Bleeding Leaf Tea Co. has many great teas and more, plenty of explanations and guidance as how to use the teas. I love that I had choices and could in some ways customize my order to my specific taste.

Not only was it easy to order, but the friendly Luna, who makes these tea mixtures is very knowledgable and helpful! She packs 15 single tea bags in a plastic cover and then sends them off in small cotton drawstring bags. So neat! The teas have become a great hit with my family! I had ordered the Herbal Aspirin Tea, The Yummy Tummy Tea, Kava Comfort  Tea and Lemon Ginger Houjicha Tea. Apart from the last they are all herbal teas, the last one green tea based.

We all love the Yummy Tummy Tea and the Herbal Aspirin best, but I am particular to the Houjicha tea. I love lemon and ginger and is so soothing! The Kava Comfort is delicious too. I do love to prepare them, feeling a little like an alchemist...brewing my healthy potions!

While browsing Etsy for all kinds of organic and healthy teas I found also Lilith's Apothecary and oh, I so love her Rejuvenating Facial Serum. It is a light oil, used under my moisturizer and is free of any preservatives or chemicals. It feels wonderful and I think my skin has improved since I began using it about 4 weeks ago.

So, if you are in any way interested in a good cup of tea, helpful and delicious, go and try out some of these or find your own local herbalist.
I found often at local farmer's markets good sources for herb teas, or shops, such as Mrs. Greens or Whole Foods. But I like to support family farms, which make small batches of tea or creams and lotions made from organically grown plants. It is an adventure and a lot of fun!

My current book list

Ok, I haven't been that consistent telling you about my reading lately!
Sometimes I have a down time and then I suddenly realize I haven't read anything of consequence recently!
But that changed again when I finally collected Alan Bradley's third installment of his Flavia de Luce series. The charmingly odd 11 year old heroine is high on my to follow list and the latest in her sleuth adventures is as addictive as the first two.
You can read a wonderful review by Sarah Weinman here.
It's best if you start this journey through Flavia's adventures at the beginning.
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie started it all and since then I can't wait to find out more about her!

Followed by The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag!

And it's the last one of her adventures which has me in it's grip right now! A Red Herring Without Mustard!

I copied this review from Amazon! It's all in a nutshell!

"By J. Lesley (Midsouth, United States)
This review is from: A Red Herring Without Mustard: A Flavia de Luce Novel (Hardcover)

This charming series of novels written by Alan Bradley is positively addictive. You can start at any point, with any of the three, but Flavia along with her family, friends and neighbors in the tiny British hamlet of Bishop's Lacey will surely capture your imagination, your sympathy, or your heart. Probably all three.

Flavia is the most unusual eleven year old girl you could ever meet. Her interests are centered around chemistry, riding her bicycle (called Gladys) and escaping the evil clutches of her two older sisters who torture her at every turn. Ah, siblings. In this third action packed adventure Flavia starts out wanting to have her fortune told at the village fête and ends up burning down the tent of the gypsy fortune teller. Of course it was all an accident and Flavia does her best to make amends by seeing that Fenella Faa has a safe place to park her caravan while she recovers from the effects of the smoke she inhaled. And what better place than on the grounds of her family's estate, Buckshaw? Events begin to spiral into more and more unusual situations as Flavia begins to uncover facts of an ancient religious group, a kidnapped infant, valuable antiques disappearing and then reappearing, and a vicious attack, then a murder. All the while the police are pursuing their inquiries and Flavia is pursuing her own investigation. What is that smell of dead fish she seems to keep noticing?

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I had been looking forward to following along while this young detective solved the puzzles which seemed to keep mounting up and I certainly was not disappointed. The deeper Flavia went into the attack on Fenella the more questions were raised about other things going on in both Bishop's Lacey and other nearby villages. In the middle of it all hangs the very real life troubles of the de Luce family and their money problems. Flavia's father has to make some hard decisions and some sacrifices are necessary now, and more will surely be faced in the future. Come along into this wonderful world and meet Flavia's father, her sisters Ophelia and Daphne, Mrs. Mallet, Dogger, the doctor, the vicar, the police inspector and his sergeant and a host of neighbors both nice and not so nice. A small English village, an eleven year old girl, the 1950's and crime of many kinds. A recipe for adventure and delight."

Thank you, J.Lesley, you put the right words to my thoughts!

Traveling

Traveling is one thing I will never tire of. Even if it's just around the corner, 20 miles from home. It is exciting to plan and discover, drive through unknown territory and see things unfold. Road trips are wonderful, but my favorite way to travel is by train.
Which hasn't happen much, unless you count the subway or metro to the city!
I always try to come up with an excuse to go on a train trip, but I still have to find one for a place far enough to make the car obviously the not so economical solution.
Maybe Boston or Philadelphia? I would not mind going by train to Seattle.

In a sleeping berth, having my coffee in the morning at the cafe, watching the world go by!

Dressing for dinner.

Perhaps my ideas of train travels are far from the reality and it is way less glamorous then I would hope?
Maybe Orient Express style?

I am dreaming!

Hope your week ahead is adventure filled!
